"Sweet" Pete Salas

Pete Salas, known as "Sweet" Pete to most, is the head instructor of Sweet Pete's Martial Arts Academy formerly known as the Chinese Kenpo Federation. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, where his mother, a native of the Big Island, and his father, from the Philippines, met.
He was raised in a close-knit family, with his parents and his two brothers. At the age of 13, Pete and his brothers joined a Kenpo school in National City and the journey began.
After 8 years of training, Pete received his Black Belt from "Chicken" Gabriel in 1981 and in 1985, he opened his own school. Since that time, his school has been blessed in many ways. Among the most notable are the popularity of the school and the success of Salas' tournament competitor to come out of San Diego since the great Steve "Nasty" Anderson.
Pete currently competes on the very prestigious NBL(National Black Belt League) Tour, fighting in California, Oregon, Utah and Nevada, as well as other states. He has been ranked in the top 5 since 1995, including the #1 ranking six years in a row (1998-2003).He is currently ranked number#2.
He credits his faith in God and God's grace towards him for his success and considers the support of his family, the encouragement from his friends and students, the fellowship from other martial artists and the backing of the San Diego Community as further blessings that have contributed to his accomplishments.
